About Dr. Bazzi
Dr. Lama Bazzi is a board certified, fully licensed psychiatrist practicing in New York City. She is trained in both medication management and psychotherapy and has experience treating a wide range of psychiatric issues. These include but are not limited to ADHD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and addictions as well as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. She believes that every individual is unique and tailors treatment plans to meet each person’s specific needs so her patients can thrive and meet their full potential.
Dr. Lama Bazzi has extensive experience working with patients from all walks of life. She completed her training in adult psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She then pursued further training in Forensic Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals under the tutelage of Philip Resnick, MD.
Dr. Bazzi served as the Medical Director of the Suffolk County Assisted Outpatient Treatment Program in Suffolk County before she joined Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn as a Psychiatry Inpatient Unit Director, where she ran the inpatient units for 4 years. She is a highly competent psychopharmacologist with experience treating co-morbid disorders and navigates complex cases with ease.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Bazzi serves as an expert witness in several courts in New York City, as well as in federal and national cases. She pursued her certification as a Medical Review Officer, gaining recognition as an expert in mental illness, legal matters, and the mitigation of penalties in defendants with co-occurring mental illnesses and substance use disorders. She has presented at several national conferences and has been recognized by the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Addition Psychiatry as a leading expert on many issues.
Dr. Bazzi was chosen as an APA Leadership fellow while in residency and held a nonvoting position on the American Psychiatric Association's Board of Trustees as elected chair of the fellowship. In 2015, she was nationally elected as the Early Career Psychiatry Trustee at Large to the APA's Board of Trustees. She represented the voice of young psychiatrists all over the United States and contributed to the shaping of policies governing the practice of psychiatry. She currently sits on the Board of Directors of the charitable arm of the APA, the APA Foundation.
